The Waterways Journal reports that industry representatives in New Orleans on December 5 commented on the Army Corps of Engineers' tentatively selected plan for Brandon Road Lock to block Asian carp. The plan includes an engineered channel with an electric barrier, noise deterrents and flushing.
Lock closures or operational changes at Brandon Road on the Illinois Waterway could disrupt upper Mississippi barge movements of grain, though the plan is still in the comment stage and no immediate price effect is evident.
