The Los Angeles Board of Animal Services Commissioners voted to study a proposal to feed only vegan dog food in the city's six shelters. The proposal claims meat-based foods contain harmful meat meal and by-products, which Canidae disputes, saying its products contain chicken, turkey and lamb meal rather than meat meal or by-products.
The proposal affects a small pet food procurement contract and has negligible impact on feed ingredient demand or prices.
