Dr. Kenneth Kalscheur presented research at the Penn State Dairy Nutrition Workshop showing canola meal can replace soybean meal in dairy cow diets. Trials showed milk yield gains of 0.6 to 1.4 litres daily for mid-lactation cows and 4.45 litres for early lactation cows, often with feed cost savings.
Evidence that canola meal can replace soybean meal in dairy rations at lower cost could increase its feed demand. The effect on prices is modest and indirect.
