Cooke Aquaculture has acquired Omega Protein Corporation for $500 million. Omega operates seven US, Canadian and European plants and more than 30 menhaden fishing vessels that produce fishmeal and feed products.
The deal consolidates a major menhaden fishmeal supplier under a salmon producer, which may affect future fishmeal sourcing and supply strategy but is unlikely to move prices immediately.
