EUMOFA's case study finds that about 20% of EU fishery catches in volume, mainly sandeel, Norway pout, blue whiting, sprat and boarfish, went to non-food use in 2016. Denmark accounted for 78% of EU landings and the EU produces about 500,000 tonnes of fishmeal and 120,000 tonnes of fish oil a year.
This gives buyers a baseline for EU fishmeal supply, which underpins regional aquafeed ingredient availability, but it does not signal a new price move.
