Rabobank's Animal Protein Outlook 2018 says fishmeal prices will stabilise as supply recovers from low production in 2014 to 2016. It projects 2018 prices of US$1,100 to 1,500 per tonne FOB Peru (64% protein) and says the first and second Peruvian anchovy quotas were below expectations.
Expected prices in the $1,100 to 1,500 range give feed buyers a reference band for 2018 budgeting. Strong Chinese demand and below-expectation quotas keep upside risk alive, but supply recovery limits the historic price trend.
