CJ Bio America is adding L-Threonine production at its Fort Dodge, Iowa plant, with an initial output of 20,000 metric tons per year. The company is building new structures on existing land, with construction starting in the second quarter of 2018 and production expected by mid-2019.
The plant already makes lysine for poultry and swine feed.
The expansion adds future amino acid supply to the feed market, which could ease lysine and threonine pricing over time. The impact is not immediate because production starts in 2019.
