The first large consignment of Ukrainian sunflower meal, about 0.5 thousand tonnes, was shipped from Odessa in December 2017 by Delta Wilmar CIS. Total shipments to China reached 7.8 thousand tonnes by early January 2018, after China approved more Ukrainian exporters.
New Black Sea sunflower meal flows into China give Chinese buyers another origin, which adds competitive supply against soymeal and rapeseed meal. The effect on prices is modest at these volumes.
