An EU-funded HealthyMinorCereals project is studying market potential for traditional cereals such as naked oats and spelt. Case studies in Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Estonia are assessing whether successful marketing can persuade farmers to grow them.
Minor cereals make up a small share of EU production, so any expansion would have little effect on feed grain prices. Market development could still gradually add niche oat demand.
