Zimbabwe faces a severe egg shortage after the H5N8 avian influenza outbreak in 2017 led to mass culling at major producers. Eggs are being imported and prices have risen sharply, with the association expecting supply to recover in about three months.
The shortage is local and small in scale, so global feed demand effects are minimal. Recovery as layers mature would ease import demand over the coming months.
