Deutsche Bank Asia-Pacific chief economist Michael Spencer expects Malaysia's economy to perform well in 2018, with growth above 5% through 2019. He said the ringgit could soon reach 3.80 per US dollar.
He also expects Bank Negara to raise rates twice over the next 12 months.
A forecast of a firmer ringgit and further rate hikes would lower the local cost of dollar-priced feed and energy imports. The outlook is an analyst view rather than a new supply or demand shock.
