US lean hogs rose 1.7% on Tuesday after falling to more than four-month lows the prior week, with technical and investment fund buying supporting futures. Wholesale pork cutout rose $1.36 to $79.72/cwt while cash hogs eased to $65.13/cwt, and live cattle finished near multi-month highs ahead of the Cattle on Feed report.
Firmer pork cutout values support hog futures, but weak cash hogs and fund positioning keep the rally fragile. Feed buyers should note that lean hog and cattle prices are moving on routine positioning rather than new supply changes.
