Australia's Gene Technology Regulator issued Syngenta a licence for the Vip3A gene in Bollgard 3 cotton, which could ease sales of Bollgard 3 cottonseed into China's compound feed and oils sector. China imported about 300,000 tonnes of Australian cottonseed last year, and Australian seed prices have already fallen over 20 percent.
Clearing the trade path to China would raise demand for Australian cottonseed and could lift the cheap seed market, though Chinese clearance is not expected before March.
