The EU, Norway, the Faroe Islands and Iceland agreed a 2018 North Atlantic herring quota of 435,000 tonnes, about 33% below 2017. The northeast Atlantic mackerel quota was cut 20% to 816,797 tonnes, and Russia and Norway reopened a Barents Sea capelin fishery with a 205,000-tonne quota.
Smaller pelagic quotas reduce the raw material available for fishmeal and fish oil production, which supports prices for these products.
