AgValue Brokers says good barley prices, with old-crop barley at about $250/t and new-crop contracts near $225/t, will attract more barley acreage this spring. The broker attributes the strength to a low Canadian dollar, strong export and domestic demand, and drought concerns in Argentina.
Current prices are supportive, but expanded planting could weigh on new-crop supplies later in the year if yields are average.
