Western Australian growers are planting more barley this season, with WA predicted plantings up seven per cent on last year. Feed barley is trading near $270/t, within 10 per cent of record prices, and Australia exported almost 2.5 million tonnes between October and February as north-east Asian feed demand rose.
Strong prices and better yields are pulling acres from wheat into barley, which could add supply later in the year. Near-record prices still support the current export and feed market.
