Malaysia has announced it will reintroduce a crude palm oil export duty from May 2018, set at 5% for May. The duty had been suspended temporarily before that.
The measure is listed as a certainly harmful intervention.
An export duty lowers Malaysian CPO export competitiveness and tends to push domestic prices down and stocks up. This is bearish for palm oil prices and can shift export flows away from Malaysia.
After 400 past bearish policy events, Palm Oil moved a median -0.0% over 5 sessions (49% higher; middle half -1.3% to +1.1%), and +0.2% over 20.
