USDA's Economic Research Service published an analysis of the 2014-15 HPAI outbreak, which cost more than 50 million US chickens and turkeys. Egg prices rose 61 percent in May-December 2015 versus a year earlier, reflecting inelastic demand.
The analysis shows how severe HPAI losses can sharply raise egg prices, a useful benchmark for assessing current supply risk, though it describes past events rather than new supply changes.
Not enough comparable past events yet for a historical read.
Moves of each commodity's benchmark from the last close before the event. Historical reads pool past events of the same kind; they describe what happened, not what will. Not investment advice.
