The State Bank of Vietnam set the dollar/dong midpoint at 22,605 on May 29, up 9 dong (0.84%) from the previous day and the highest of 2018 so far. Commercial banks quoted the greenback near 22,900, with Sacombank listing the highest rate at 22,895.
A firmer dollar against the dong raises the local-currency cost of dollar-priced feed imports such as corn, soybean meal and DDGS for Vietnamese buyers. The move is modest and driven by central bank rate-setting, so it adds only a small cost pressure.
