Dutch production rights broker Frans Evers says phosphate rights prices have risen sharply in recent weeks because demand exceeds supply. He attributes the demand mainly to dairy farmers, who still earn money at a base milk price of €35 per 100 kilos and may see milk prices bottom out.
He does not see large unsold volumes being held back by speculators.
This trade covers manure phosphate rights in the Netherlands, not fertilizer product prices, so it has little direct effect on feed or fertilizer markets. It does show dairy profitability supporting farm investment in the region.
