Commodity diesel on the CME fell 12.19 cents to $1.7842 a gallon on Thursday, a 6.4% drop that was smaller than the declines in Brent and WTI. The move was the largest one-day fall since July 2015 once pandemic-era crashes are excluded.
It also put the 19-week run of rising weekly DOE/EIA retail diesel prices at risk of ending.
A sharp drop in wholesale diesel lowers fuel and freight costs for feed mills and livestock operations, and it signals softer crude prices that can weigh on energy-linked feed inputs.
