A Colorado State University Extension outlook says the cattle and beef markets are entering the seasonal summer doldrums. Strong packer margins, beef exports and demand are offset by high production, heavy market-ready cattle numbers and weak byproduct markets.
Heavy protein production is expected to weigh on cattle prices through the summer, while strong demand provides some support. Byproduct weakness also lowers value for rendered and offal products used in feed.
