The price of methionine in Russia fell 5% in April 2018 to about 2.5-2.6 euro/kg, according to FeedLot.ru data. Russian imports of the amino acid over January to April 2018 were about 8,000 tons, 17% lower than a year earlier.
A new plant to produce L-valine, L-threonine and L-tryptophan, with capacity up to 20,000 tons, was announced in Russia at the end of April 2018.
Lower Russian methionine prices and reduced imports point to softer domestic demand and pricing for feed amino acids. The planned domestic amino acid capacity could further reduce Russia's reliance on imports over time.
