The European Food Safety Authority reported 3 HPAI A(H5N6) and 11 HPAI A(H5N8) poultry outbreaks, plus 55 H5N6 wild bird detections, in Europe between 16 February and 15 May 2018. Fewer wild bird cases were found than in the same period a year earlier, and no evidence links the European H5N6 viruses to human infection clades.
Contained poultry outbreaks in Europe have limited effect on feed demand, so the price impact is minor. Continued disease pressure could still weigh on European poultry output and modestly support poultry-feed demand.
