Nutrien told Green Markets on July 3 that it will close its Geismar phosphate production by the end of 2018, while its Geismar nitrogen production continues unaffected. The closure removes phosphate capacity from the U.S. market.
Losing this domestic phosphate capacity tightens supply and supports DAP prices, which raises the cost of phosphate in feed.
