Sudan's OCHA bulletin reports sorghum, millet and wheat prices at record or near-record highs in all monitored markets. Sorghum prices more than doubled between October 2017 and May 2018 in Khartoum and El Gedaref.
The rise is attributed to removal of wheat subsidies, currency depreciation and 2017 crop shortfalls.
Local sorghum and wheat shortages are raising food insecurity and import demand in Sudan. The effect on world prices is limited because the market is regional.
