Russia's confirmed highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks since mid-June have risen to 54, now spanning 10 oblasts including Tatarstan and Chuvash. More than 300,000 birds were affected in the latest cases, including commercial flocks in Rostov, and Ghana also reported new cases.
Most affected birds are in backyard flocks, so the direct effect on poultry supply is modest, but spread into commercial farms could reduce poultry output and modestly support demand for alternative meats and feed substitution.
