Statistics Japan reported that July 2018 consumer inflation rose to 0.9% year on year, up from 0.7% in June and above a 0.4% consensus. The gain was driven mainly by food prices, which rose 1.4%, including cereals, dairy, and meat.
Higher Japanese food inflation signals firmer domestic food demand, but the effect on feed buyers is limited. The data point does not change global feed grain supply or prices.
