Oregon Port of Willamette, led by Kevin Mannix, is competing with a Millersburg group for a $25 million grant to build an intermodal freight facility in Brooks. The project would let Willamette Valley agricultural shippers move containers from trucks to rail rather than trucking them to Seattle or Tacoma.
A new intermodal facility could lower freight costs for Oregon grain, hay and seed shippers, but the project is still at the bidding stage and has little near-term price effect.
