The Soy Transportation Coalition sent stakeholders a Top 10 wish list of infrastructure priorities for agricultural competitiveness. Items include lock and dam maintenance, deeper dredging of the Lower Mississippi, a Columbia River channel depth, heavier trucks and a fuel tax increase.
The list also proposes steps to offset the effects of trade disputes.
These are advocacy recommendations with no enacted policy, so they do not change supply or demand now. If adopted, lock reliability and channel depth improvements would lower logistics costs for soybean exports.
