EPA added distillers sorghum oil to the list of approved renewable fuel pathways, finding biodiesel and renewable diesel from it meet the 50% lifecycle greenhouse gas reduction threshold. The rule also defines distillers sorghum oil and replaces references to non-food grade corn oil with distillers corn oil.
It was published in the Federal Register on August 2, 2018.
Approval creates a new eligible feedstock for RFS-credited biofuel, which could add demand for sorghum-derived oil and distillers products. The effect on sorghum grain prices is likely small.
