Researchers at the Technical University of Munich reported an enzymatic process that makes L-methionine using CO2 instead of hydrogen cyanide. The team says the method could be safer and more sustainable, and they note global L-Met output is above 1 million tons a year.
The process is at research stage, so it is unlikely to change methionine supply or cost in the near term, though it could eventually alter production economics.
