A FreightWaves article describes plans by American Patriot Container Transport to run container-on-vessel service on the Mississippi River. The company says shippers could save 30 to 40 percent over other intermodal options.
The service would link St. Louis-area ports with the Midwest, the lower Mississippi and overseas routes.
This is a proposed container service and has no near-term effect on grain or feed supply, demand or prices. It is a long-term shift in inland waterway freight options.
