A rendering plant taking livestock carcasses into greases and other feed and industrial materials is facing county action over odor. The county Board of Supervisors plans to pursue fines for violating its use permit after dozens of trucks carrying decomposing animals were left on site.
Operational problems at rendering plants can constrain output of animal fats and meat and bone meal used in feed, though this single local incident is unlikely to move prices much.
