Sumitomo Chemical held a completion ceremony on October 4 for a new 100,000-ton methionine line at its Ehime Works in Japan. Total company methionine capacity rises to about 250,000 tons per year.
The line will begin commercial production after trial runs.
New methionine capacity adds supply to a market expected to grow about 6% annually, which could soften amino acid prices for feed makers. Buyers should watch how quickly the output reaches the market.
