Sumitomo Chemical held a completion ceremony on October 4, 2018 for a new methionine production line at its Ehime Works in Japan. The line has capacity of about 100,000 metric tons per year, lifting the company's total to about 250,000 tons.
Commercial production is set to start soon.
The added capacity increases global methionine supply in a market growing about 6% a year, which could ease prices for poultry feed amino acid buyers. The effect depends on how quickly the new tonnage is absorbed.
