Peru's first anchovy fishing season of 2018 began on 12 April with a TAC of 3.32 million tonnes, the highest since 2011, and was almost fully caught by early July. Peruvian plants produced nearly 1 million tonnes of fishmeal and 170,000 tonnes of fish oil in the first half of 2018, up 40% and 77% year on year.
Ample Peruvian fishmeal output supports sufficient global supply and a downward price trend for fishmeal, which lowers protein costs for feed compounders.
