FETRA, Argentina's federation of transporters, said on Oct. 17 it intends to strike next week and wants higher hauling rates.
The union says it needs a trigger clause to automatically update tariffs amid hyperinflation, noting the last update was in July. Over 80% of Argentina's farm output moves to ports by truck, so a strike could disrupt port activity.
A trucking strike would delay soybean, meal, oil and corn shipments from a major exporter, tightening nearby export availability and supporting prices. Drought has already cut Argentina's soybean crop by 37%, so any logistics disruption adds to supply tightness.
