US natural gas futures jumped to their highest in about nine months on forecast cold weather across much of the country. Storage stocks were at their lowest seasonal level since 2003 according to EIA data.
Low storage combined with a cold outlook supports higher gas prices, which raise energy and fertilizer-related input costs and can favor coal and reduce gas-fired generation.
After 221 past bullish weather events, Natural Gas moved a median +3.3% over 5 sessions (61% higher; middle half -5.2% to +14.0%), and -0.3% over 20.
