China's Ministry of Commerce announced an anti-dumping investigation into pricing of Australian barley by several companies, covering roughly October 2017 to September 2018 and possibly earlier. The probe follows China's earlier investigation into US sorghum, which led to a 178.6% duty before being terminated in May.
Possible Chinese duties would cut Australian barley export demand and pressure feed barley prices, while the sorghum precedent shows export flows can be redirected to other buyers.
