India's DGFT made non-basmati rice items eligible for a 5% Merchandise Exports from India Scheme (MEIS) benefit on exports made from 26 November 2018 to 25 March 2019. The notice adds HS codes for husked, parboiled, other and broken rice.
The export subsidy makes Indian non-basmati rice more competitive on world markets, which can support export demand and firm global rice prices.
