OCP and Spain's Fertinagro announced a joint venture, OCP-Fertinagro Advanced Solutions, to produce enhanced fertilisers at Jorf Lasfar in Morocco. The venture will start operating in 2020 with an initial capacity of 250,000 tonnes a year of specialty NPK fertilisers.
It will also offer advisory services to farmers, following OCP's October 2018 investment in Fertinagro.
A 250,000-tonne specialty NPK plant starting in 2020 is small relative to global fertiliser trade, so the price impact is minor. It adds capacity in value-added blends rather than in base phosphate.
