IEI Barge Services, a subsidiary of Alliant Energy Transportation, is supporting a freight study of additional infrastructure at port terminals on the Upper Mississippi River in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin. The study follows a 2018 regional freight assessment that recommended incremental expansion of existing port facilities.
Planned port expansion could eventually lower shipping costs for regional shippers, but the project is at a study stage and will not change near-term supply or prices.
