Hides and most offal and by-product prices in Australia kept falling through 2018, according to a Meat & Livestock Australia co-product report. Hides fell 52 to 83 percent year-on-year in December on flat demand, and inventories continue to build.
Lower by-product values reduce processor returns from each animal, which can support feed-cost and cattle-value pressure. Growing global offal and hide supply from higher slaughter in the Americas keeps the downward price pressure in place.
