Nuffield Scholar Daniel Roberts has published a report on avian influenza that examines outbreaks across several countries. It warns that the UK has so far contained small outbreaks but that a large outbreak is likely eventually.
It also says the rapidly expanding UK poultry industry is increasing the risk of a substantial outbreak.
A major UK avian influenza outbreak would trigger culls, movement restrictions and export bans, cutting domestic poultry supply and feed demand for poultry rations.
