Ukrainian farmers and traders are preparing for spring fertilizer demand after a disruptive 2018 that stopped Ukrainian plants during the 2017 spring season. Stocks of ammonium nitrate and substitutes totaling about 590,000 tons were reportedly bought since 2017, roughly 60% of the requirement.
Early buying and stockpiling reduce the risk of a spring price spike for nitrogen fertilizers, but any further plant outages could tighten supply quickly and lift urea and ammonium nitrate prices.
