Fane Valley's chief executive told a Scottish co-op conference that separating animal by-products by single species raised the value of its byproducts from £120/t to £1,000/t. The company's red meat division, Linden Foods, has grown pet food demand and also harvests gelatine from bones.
Higher value for rendered by-products reflects strong pet food demand for clean single-species material, a trend that can tighten supply of standard meat and bone meal for feed.
