Viterra has announced it will not renew its rail haulage agreement with Genesee & Wyoming Australia on the Eyre Peninsula. From 1 June, all grain on the peninsula will move by road only.
The change is expected to add up to 50 extra truck movements per day in Port Lincoln.
Losing rail shifts grain freight costs onto trucks and increases congestion at Port Lincoln, which may raise delivered grain costs for local growers and exporters, a modest upward pressure on regional feed grain basis.
