The European Fat Processors and Renderers Association (EFPRA) asked the European Commission to allow continued shipments of Category 1 meat and bone meal to the UK for incineration. The EU-27 produces close to one million tonnes a year of this material, and current EU rules prohibit exporting it for incineration.
A hard Brexit without a transition period would block these shipments.
If shipments to the UK stop, EU supply of meat and bone meal would have no incineration outlet and could be pushed into the domestic feed-meal market, which is bearish for prices.
