Swedish researchers report a pH-shift process that recovers protein concentrates from herring by-products for use in aquafeed. The concentrates reach 75-80% protein with an amino acid profile similar to fishmeal, but the work is lab-scale only.
The process is at lab stage with no proven economics, so it has no near-term effect on fishmeal supply or prices.
